This time around I’ve got it figured out Nothing can pull me down I am the king with a broken crown But you can’t turn my smile into a frown I hope that this is the last time that I speak about you I wish that this could be the last thought that I think about you I don’t wanna give away another second of my time This time around it’s a brand new chance To leave it all behind I am the one who is in control And I have taken hold Yeah I have taken hold I hope that this is last time that I speak about you I wish that this could be the last thought that I think about you But it’s too bad that I know myself well enough to know that it ain’t true I don’t wanna give away another second of my time I’ve been trying to figure out the reasons Why you did everything that you did Now I know that it’s because You’re nothing but a joke And you ain’t even got a punch line It took too long to understand What I really need the most Is to speak the honest truth That’s what they say will set you free And down inside I know it’s true But it doesn’t change how hard it is When I walked away I didn’t know the words to say I felt the day Was quickly drawing to its end Knowing what needs to be done This is just the first step of many more We ain’t out of the woods just yet I bear the burden of the past and the things that I became And I let them all remind me That even with a leech living inside The choice will always remain mine And my shadow will live without me No matter how it may come to an end No doubt my words will never die I’ve got it down this time around

Honestly 03:56
Everyone I know slipped through the cracks and fell off of the wagon somewhere halfway down the road I said that I was never coming back But I just couldn’t seem to stay on track And I’ve been lying to myself If I had known back then Everything that I know now I could’ve saved myself so much time That’s all in the past And there’s no point in looking back Since you’re nothing but ashes in the wind I’ve got nothing left to lose and I don’t have the time left to waste so I won't waste any more I just want to see this through to the end so maybe when I’m done you will see who I have been I let another summer slip away from me again I got another enemy who used to be a friend I hate to say it became a trend I keep it all inside because I don’t want you to know I’ve seen that you don’t care and you don’t even know it shows So just stay out of my way Just show me a little honesty and we might get back to how we used to be But I don’t think you care enough to even try so I won’t waste my breath I’ve got nothing left to lose and I don’t have the time left to waste so I won't waste any more I just want to see this through to the end so maybe when I’m done you will see who I have been There’s no more time left so I won’t waste it Honestly I just might make it I don’t care how you think I should live my life

Rats 02:11
Sell what little you have left Of yourself and of your time Give up what you really love Keep on feeding yourself the line Just stay safe, it’s all fine Nothing good will come from this Treat me just like what I am Nothing more than vermin in a trap Feed me poison snap my neck Cut me off from what I am To keep me in the dark below Bait the trap with what I need the most Every time I’ve had the chance to make a change I let it all slip right through my hands There's no sun to guide my eyes So I’m learning to see inside And how to make the best of what I’ve got Treat me just like what I am Nothing more than vermin in a trap Feed me poison snap my neck Cut me off from what I am To keep me in the dark below Bait the trap with what I need the most

Make It 05:10
Remember how it used to be? All those years ago embraced in harmony I miss your voice I miss all the time we spent my friend you were the one That I could be myself around Now I stumble through the darkness and you’re still nowhere to be found When you think that you know how to make it But you just end up alone It gets a little harder to fake it Just admit it that you’re flesh and bone What’s the price you pay for all the things you’ve done? And when do you finally say that enough is enough? What if I promised you that one day I’d be So much more than just the broken man you see? Would you still be around? Would I have gone another route or would have things just stayed the same? It doesn’t matter anyway When no matter what I do I’m still standing here with nothing left to say When you think that you know how to make it But you just end up alone It gets a little harder to fake it Just admit it that you’re flesh and bone What’s the price you pay for all the things you’ve done? And when do you finally say that enough is enough? All my life I’ve been left to figure these things out There was never a hand to guide me when I needed it the most But now that I can see you for who you really were I can say that you never deserved to be there anyway

about

The debut EP by the one man project Rocket Queen Riot, "This Time Around" is the culmination of nearly a decade of learning how to play multiple instruments, write songs, build a studio, record, mix and master music, and start a business. The songs here speak volumes about the experiences of Adam Johnson, the man behind the music you hear. Lyrical themes include those of loss, depression, and self doubt, but also of hope and progression through these obstacles that many of us face. Musically you will hear inspiration from a massive amount of artists and eras of heavy music, including the 80's thrash metal such as Metallica, the Seattle grunge scene (most notably Chris Cornell and Alice In Chains), hard rockers like Slash, My Chemical Romance and bands of the mid 2000's alternative scene, and Metalcore acts including Asking Alexandria, Falling In Reverse, and many, many more. This EP was recorded in both Tennessee and Colorado and you will hear variations in guitar tones and techniques that tell the story of the learning process behind it all. Please enjoy the first of many collections of songs, and stick around for what's to come!

Special thanks to every one of my friends and family who have encouraged me, shared a post on social media, or simply said that they liked a riff that I played for them. You all play a bigger part in this than you know, and I appreciate every single one of you!

about

Rocket Queen Riot Denver, Colorado

Rocket Queen Riot is a one man project hell bent on serving up nasty guitar riffs and dirty bass lines, killer drums and a variety of vocal styles from 80’s thrash to Seattle grunge. Operated solely by Adam Johnson, founder of The Devil’s Workshop Recordings, the upcoming EP “This Time Around” is a story of how life can kick you while you’re down, but eventually you have to kick back harder. ... more
